According to data released by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) in October, the Existing Home Sales gained 9.4 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.57 million units in September in all major regions of the country and 9.2 percent above year-ago levels. The Existing-home sales activity is at the highest level in over two years as more first time home buyers took advantage of tax credit incentives and lower home prices driven by the record number of foreclosures and lower mortgage interest rates. According to NAR, first-time home buyers accounted for more than 45 percent of home sales during the past year. The housing market continues to demonstrate signs of recovery. According to NAR, "The current housing supply is the lowest we’ve seen in tow and a half years. If we could continue to absorb inventory at this pace, home prices would return to normal, modest appreciation patterns next year."
